The Lord prompted this idea to me while working down in the dirt, midday, Eswatini sun, pulling weeds in a skirt with Magechi (our care point ministry leader) in her garden at our assigned carepoint. Her garden has heads of lettuce, green onions, red onions, and now a whole lot less weeds!

It is a beautiful garden. And the Lord used it to inspire this piece of writing!

   Tend your Garden.

There is much value in it;

So many crops, all unique in size and shape.

All different colors and tastes, planted so fine and meticulous,

such a beautiful harvest to take place!

There is no garden like your garden;

Not one is crafted to yield the same.

But weeds seek only to strangle your crops,

to steal away their sun and suck nutrients from their roots,

so prosper they will not.

And yield no fruit.

The large weeds have been there long,

growing comfortable in their place.

They are prominent in ones garden,

taking much nutrients and sun;

a clear issue to an untrained eye.

Deep in the ground, they are hard to uproot.

However,

the little weeds need uprooting too;

while large weeds are vast and arrogant,

the little weeds go unnoticed.

Unchecked, they are free to grow,

until they become like the large:

all consuming, and difficult to uproot.

Be diligent in noticing all weeds.

  Large weeds you must twist and pull.

Working the soil until the roots become loose.

  But be vigilant to see the small.

Little weeds are easier to pull.

Catch them small so they will not grow.

  Be aware, some weeds appear small,

but their roots are long, and run deep in your ground.

Be carful not to simply pull away the surface of a weed;

do not tend your garden to simple make it pretty at a glance.

Grab the root of the weed and pull,

so the roots of your garden may be lovely like the surface.

A weed with only its greenery plucked is a problem unsolved;

it will come back,

if not pulled away by the root.

   Tend your Garden.

Give your garden the nutrients it needs.

It is easier to pull away weeds from watered soil;

with is moisture and nutrients, bad roots come up with ease.

Feed it what is good and your yield will be great.

Your garden holds beauty, don’t let it be strangle.
